The Black Hills are a small region of steep volcanic hills at the southwestern edge of the Iron Claw Hills, east of the Pale Wastes.

Named for their black, rich, fertile soil, the Black Hills are the remnants of an ancient volcanic arc, formed on the periphery of the uplift that created the ridge running through this region. The mineral-rich soil that erodes from these hills, and the many natural springs caused by faults and sills in the strata beneath, contribute to the fertility of these hills and the lands to their south and west.

They are home to the village of Mirino, capital of condotierre Capitani Muzio Sforza's new empire. The villages of Sermena and Isolici lie to the south and southwest.
